Illegal items Update
  • District News

Updates to the middle and high school handbooks were approved by the School Board on September 19, 2022.

A message from Dr. Reynolds & Mr. Vinchattle:

Dear Titan Families,

The Board of Education approved some handbook updates for LCHS and LCMS at last night's board meeting.  One important update that we would like to make you aware of is law enforcement notification for illegal items in student's possession.   The policy update is below.

Page 30 of LCHS student handbook and Page 22 of LCMS student handbook (and discipline matrix updates on pages 19-21)

Illegal Items Found in School or in a Student’s Possession

Students are prohibited from distributing, dispensing, manufacturing, possessing, using, and being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or look-a-like substances; and possessing or using nicotine, nicotine products, or look-a-like substances.  Weapons are not allowed on school grounds or at school activities; the exception being weapons in the control of law enforcement officials or those being used for educational purposes and approved by the principal.  Parents of students found in violation of this policy may be contacted, and the students will be reported to law enforcement officials.

Please be aware that illegal items include vaping devices. The legal age to possess a vaping device is 21, and we are increasing our response in order to promote safety for our students. Vapes can include substances other than nicotine, which is a huge concern for safety. Additionally, the addictive qualities of nicotine products make them very dangerous for young people.
