College & Career Readiness

At Lewis Central High School, our counselors are dedicated to helping students prepare for life after graduation. Whether a student plans to pursue a trade program, attend a two- or four-year college, enter the military, or go straight into the workforce, our counselors provide guidance, resources, and personalized support every step of the way. Our goal is to help each student discover their path, build confidence in their choices, and take meaningful steps toward a successful future.

Career Exploration Experiences

Students have the opportunity to gain hands-on career exploration experiences throughout the year. High school counselor Mr. Nepple takes interested students to various community workplaces, allowing them to see firsthand what different jobs are really like. Students complete career interest surveys to help guide which workplaces they visit, and during their visits, they meet with business owners and industry leaders to learn about specific fields, the education and skills required, and what daily life is like in those careers.

Examples of businesses our students have visited:

  • AgriVision Equipment Group
  • Council Bluffs Fire Department
  • Council Bluffs Police Department
  • Council Bluffs Vet Clinic
  • Heartland Properties
  • Melissa Hawkins Therapy
  • Miller Electric
  • Omaha Water Treatment Plant
  • Rev Aviation
  • Stuart Tinley Law Firm

Annual Events

Each year, LCHS hosts two key events designed to help students explore their options for life after graduation: our College Fair and our Trade Fair. These events bring representatives, programs, and industry professionals directly to our students, giving them the chance to ask questions, compare opportunities, and learn about a wide range of post-secondary pathways.
