A middle school addition will allow us to expand classroom space for new students and improve our access to multimedia, technology and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) opportunities for students. It will allow us to expand our Career and Technical Education offerings to help our students prepare for their future in high school and beyond. 

This addition would add a new media center, allowing the current space to be repurposed into classrooms. The media center will focus on providing common meeting spaces and multimedia, technology and STEM labs.

The current band and choir classrooms are undersized and located in areas not conducive to their purpose and not in close proximity to each other. Each of the rooms were not designed to provide the spatial or acoustic needs that are required for the number of students participating in those programs. The new classrooms will provide the space and acoustical settings that are needed to continue to expand programming. Their current spaces will be repurposed into classroom and CTE spaces.

The addition will allow for expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses through the repurposing of the current fine arts classrooms. These courses will provide students with training in high demand, high paying jobs. While our high school programs continue to flourish, we do not currently have space at the middle school to house this type of program. The building that had been used for those classes years ago had transitioned to storage for high school fine arts when it was no longer suitable for instructional use. When the CTE space was expanded and the auditorium was built at the high school, the building was emptied and torn down to make room for the Operations building and parking lot.

We currently do not have any room for storage outside of classrooms and therefore instructional space is taken up by items that we need to store. The addition will allow for added storage capacity which would free up instructional spaces. For example, we currently store tables, chairs and other equipment in our gymnasiums, which creates unsafe conditions for physical education instruction and activity participation. Several classrooms have books and equipment taking up counter space or areas of the room which impede the learning activities that are taking place in those spaces.
