Replacing an aging, regularly failing system

Our oldest building still has some areas that need improvements to enhance navigation for all students and staff. We currently have classrooms where students with mobility issues are unable to attend classes. We have other areas in which students have to traverse around the entire building in order to access their classrooms when the rest of their classmates go down a simple flight of stairs. This causes our students with mobility issues to miss instructional time that their peers are not having to miss.

Make improvements to traffic queuing, stormwater drainage and pavement restoration. Traffic queuing in the middle school is difficult due to the lack of structure and creates unsafe conditions at arrival and dismissal. Lack of proper drainage impacts vehicle travel and allows water to back up into the building.

Replace mechanical equipment, including HVAC valves and controls, to a more modern system. Our current system is over twenty years old. Many of our classrooms have temperature fluctuations that create difficult learning conditions. There are times in which systems in classrooms fail and students have to be relocated until it is able to be repaired. 

Update restrooms and locker rooms to modern standards. Currently, several of our restrooms and locker rooms do not have proper partitions, functional toilets, sinks and showers. The locker rooms do not have adequate ventilation and, in some cases, even lockers for students to store their personal items. In the current boys locker room, the restroom facilities emulate a barracks-style facility, with toilets that are out in the open without any partition to speak of.

This includes tuckpointing, flashing, etc.

Update the ceilings in many parts of the building

Update lighting throughout the building. We currently do not have any LED lighting throughout the building. 

Some flooring replacement has happened in recent years, but this would catch up the rest of the building.

The athletic building is an extension of our middle school. We hold physical education and other courses within the building. Renovations would include updated exterior metal siding, the addition of HVAC, replacement of interior insulation, along with other safety-related renovations.

With the new parking lot created when the Operations building opened south of LCMS, a vestibule would be added to allowing our bus riders to exit on the south side at the end of the day. This would remove the bus traffic from the area where parents pick up at the end of the day.
