Kreft Primary Talents Program (TAG)
The core of this program model is a shared responsibility that better meets the unique needs of the gifted learner. A type and degree of exceptional ability is determined. Ability as well as opportunity and interest are areas where accommodations may occur.
The Kreft Talents Program provides extended learning opportunities for students at three levels:
Inclusive (open to all students)
Selective (performance, teacher recommendation)
Highly Selective (performance, invitation only)
INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING
The Talents Program facilitator teaches whole-class lessons which promote higher level thinking within the kindergarten and first grade classrooms. The facilitator also works collaboratively with classroom teachers. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Destination Imagination.
SELECTIVE PROGRAMMING
Selective programming addresses the areas of student strengths, interests, and creativity. Collaboration between the classroom teacher and the Talents Facilitator provides differentiated learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom setting. This may include clubs that provide direct instruction in areas of strength taught by the Talents facilitator. These clubs focus on math and reading comprehension. Participation in these content specific groups is based on student performance on district assessments, teacher recommendation, or student choice.
HIGHLY SELECTIVE PROGRAMMING
Highly selective programming addresses areas of exceptional academic strengths in the areas of math problem solving and literacy. These students have academic needs that are beyond that of their grade level curriculum. The Talents facilitator will collaborate with the classroom teacher to meet the needs of these students. If classroom modifications are needed, the teacher, parents, and Talents facilitator may work to develop a differentiated learning plan. The plan may also include direct instruction by a Talents facilitator.
