Healthy Kids Act

In 2008, the Iowa legislature enacted the “Healthy Kids Act”,
requiring all students in grades 6-12 be engaged in physical
activity for a minimum of 120 minutes per week in which there are
at least five school days. The law also requires that we monitor
how students fulfill this requirement. Lewis Central High School
has a graduation requirement of 4 credits of PE courses. This is an
average of one trimester per year. During a term in which a
student participates in one of these classes we know the
requirement is being fulfilled through our offerings. There are a
few other elective classes or school sponsored activities that
would also meet the requirement
