Last Family Newsletter
As the year draws to a close, I want to thank the Kreft parents and families for the support you have given to the Kreft staff and students. Without your help we wouldn't be able to get the student achievement results we have this year. It has been a great year for the students and staff.
We still are busy with spring assessments. Hopefully we will complete testing early next week. We finished the NWEA testing last week. At first look, in reading 79% of our kindergarteners read at or above expectation and 73% of first grade students ended at or above expectation. In math, 71% of kindergarteners met expectation and 70% of first graders were at or above expectation on the NWEA Primary MAP test. We continue closing the gap of our students with an IEP. Students with IEPs made gains this year and we are getting closer to meeting our district and building goal for students with an IEP.
We look forward to seeing our kindergarten students next year and we wish the first graders moving to Titan Hill the best. It is hard for the teachers and me to send our first graders off to Titan Hill. We have enjoyed working with all of our students.
Enjoy your summer.
Mrs. Grell

As you and your child "collect" things this summer, why not start a notebook to help collect words? Here are some categories that could go on the tops of pages. As you find a word in a book, on a sign, or hear it in conversation, add it to a list. You'll be amazed at how quickly the pages get filled!
Words that have prefixes (re-do, unfasten)
Words that have suffixes (smartest, looking, carried)
Words that name people (brother, friend, president)
Words that name places (home, yard, proper nouns of countries, cities)
Words that are compounds (someday, cannot)
Words that are contractions (haven't, wasn't)
Words that sound the same but are spelled different ways (to, too, two)
Words that can be pronounced two different ways (live, live)
Words that form plurals (cat/cats, calf/calves, ox/oxen, bus/buses)
Words ending with a vowel (tuba, shoe)
Words with a vowel and r (corn, cart, first, hurt, teacher)
Category words (foods, stores, buildings, jobs, numbers, animals, vehicles)
Have a great summer. Remember, words are all around us!
Counselor News - Marcia Raymer
It may seem strange to talk about starting a new school year when we are in the month of May. However, keeping a few key thoughts in mind will help you in preparing your child for success in the upcoming school year.
- First of all enjoy your summer vacation!
- Continue educational activities such as reading and learning about new things.
- The first week of August begin to return your child to a school routine. Set the alarm and get them going. This will reduce the anxiety for starting the new school year.
- Teach confidence by showing it. When parents spend too much time trying to calm their children's possible fears about a new school year, their children begin to think, "Wow, if my parents are this concerned about me, and they have to talk this much about going to school, maybe there really is something to be worried about!"
More effective parents give lots of hugs, listen, and say, "I believe you can do this." By doing this they send a very strong message of confidence. Simply put, confident parents tend to have confident kids...worried parents tend to have worried kids.
I wish you all a very happy summer! See you in the fall!
