Wednesday, October 1, was a better day for first grade teacher, Alison Toman. At exactly 10:00 a.m., four employees of the Council Bluffs Office Max store walked into her room bearing gifts of flowers, a new chair, and a huge box containing over $1200 worth of school supplies. It was all part of the national program called "A Day Made Better," an effort to eliminate teacher-funded classrooms. Nearly 1,300 teachers from across the country received the supplies, along with a framed certificate to commemorate the special day. Alison was nominated by Kreft principal, Barb Grell, who was on hand as Alison was honored in front of her students. The first graders told the Office Max employees that their teacher is "funny, silly, and pretty," and went on to say that Mrs. Toman "helps us write and spell words," "teaches us about science" and "loves us."Alison has been with the Lewis Central District for 10 years, and, according to Mrs. Grell ,is "passionate about student learning and is a lead learner in the building."
