October VIP News

The first month of school has certainly passed quickly. With the 2008-2009 school year now in full swing, our calendars and schedules seem to fill up faster than ever. Keeping up with your busy middle-schooler can be a full-time job in itself. Regular communication and support between parents, their middle school children and their teachers is more important than ever—yet often more challenging.
VIP was developed for one reason and one reason only: to become a support system for these three groups. There are no fees, no obligations, and no time commitments. VIP is truly a resource that is available to you and we encourage all parents, students and teachers to take advantage of this tool as often as is needed.
Back by popular demand, the VIP Steering Committee is very excited to host regular sessions for all VIP members and non-members throughout the 08-09 school year. These sessions will occur once a month for just one hour and will cater to different topics that are important to our middle school community. Possible subject matters include but are not limited to: internet safety, Powerschool, ITBS testing, communicating with your teen, teenage depression, BMI and eating disorders and motivational speakers. A tentative calendar with the monthly topics can be found inside this month’s Titans Times. Exact dates will be communicated as soon as they are finalized to allow enough time to plan in advance for the sessions you are interested in attending. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to come to any or all of the sessions . . . and when you come bring a friend!
The October VIP session will be held Thursday, October 23 from 6-7 pm in the Middle school cafeteria with a presentation and information on Internet Safety. Don’t forget your friend!
Thanks to all for a successful first round of conferences! A special thanks to all of the VIP members who were able to volunteer time to help with the book fair and/or donated desserts. Your support is very much appreciated.
The VIP Steering Committee is looking forward to another great year at our middle school and continues to look for ways to improve. Remember that VIP was created to become an additional resource for YOU. Please feel free to contact any member of the steering committee at any time if you have any suggestions, questions, comments or concerns.
