Bullying and Harassment Have No Place In High Schools

Young people can be very cruel to each other. For several years we surveyed LC high school students and they reported being treated with respect by adults in the building, but not by other students. This result popped up again in the spring of 2008 on a climate survey. We have worked on these issues, and will continue to do so...
Our Student Handbook specifically addresses this type of harassment and bullying behavior on page 20. Students need to report instances to someone they trust (hopefully school employees, but if not, so be it...) and that report needs to be passed on to building administrators.
There are some resources available to our students. Our counselors and all the building administrators will gladly listen and follow up on issues brought to them. There are also some good things out in the world that can be of use. The Iowa Department of Education is one ready source. Check out the material at the attached website.
