The Lewis Central High School Drama Department's Troupe #5150 of the International Thespian Society, held its annual induction ceremony to celebrate the inclusion of 24 new members on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7:30 PM in the Lewis Central Auditorium at the Middle School.  The Drama Department also presented its Annual ITS Awards Show to an impressive number of LCHS drama supporters.

Through hard work, sacrifice, and dedication, these students have earned sufficient points on a scale dictated by the Educational Theatre Association (200 hours minimum which equals 20 points) to have the right to be called Thespians. The International Thespian Society, founded in 1929, is the honorary theatre organization for students in high school. Operated by the Educational Theatre Association, ITS offers everything from varied performance venues to college audition opportunities to formal awards and scholarships. Since 1929, more than two million students have been inducted and have gone on to distinguish themselves in the professions of education, medicine, law, entertainment and more.

Students inducted into this organization share the honor with some pretty high-profile fellow-thespians: Tom Hanks, Rene Zellweger, Faye Dunaway, Marcus Lovett, Sally Struthers, Jaclyn Smith, Tommy Sands, Dick Van Dyke, Tommy Tune, Kristie Allie, John Travolta, John Goodman, Jerry Van Dyke, Wayne Brady, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Jai Rodriguez, and Paula Prentiss, to name just a few.

Since its beginning in 1929 under the name National Thespians, the Educational Theatre Association has worked to promote and strengthen school theatre by recognizing and rewarding excellence. We strive, alongside educators, advocates, and artists, to make theatre an instrument of lifelong learning. The Association also serves as the eyes, ears, and voice of the school theatre community, advocating a stronger role for theatre education in the curriculum.

Along with the ITS Induction, students will be honored with a drama letter or a certificate of participation.  Awards will also be presented to students for outstanding work in performance and production.  The nominees are chosen by their peers in a nomination process that allows any student who participated in drama to nominate themselves or a peer.

The top vote getters are placed on a "final ballot."  The ITS Awards judges vote on the final ballot.  ITS members and ITS inductees votes are averaged to serve as one judge's vote.
