Food Service

Recommended Dietary Allowance

by Dean Harrifeld

April 20, 2008

We are posting this information in an effort to communicate with Parents and Staff exactly what the Caloric intake should be for children. You will see that the information is based upon Breakfast and the child's age. The same for Lunch recommended dietary allowances. The age of the child and then the caloric intake for the lunch time meal.

This is important information as it gives us a base line when we talk about "Healthy Meals". What Food Service offers is a Lunch that meet this 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for your student's calorie needs for the day. This takes in to account if the student eats all of the food on the tray and does not include any other food(s) the student may eat.

We hope you find this information helpful. If you use this information in conjunction with the Nutrient Analysis done on the Lunch menus, you should be able to have good information for reviewing the Lunch Meals.

As we go forward we would like to have all of the individual school lunch menus published and on our web site by this Spring or next Fall.

Please click on the link below to view the Recommended Dietary Allowances.
