On To State!

First-time State Math Qualifiers from LC!

March 20, 2008

200We want to extend a big CONGRATULATIONS to the participants of the 6th grade Math Day at Iowa Western Community College! All the participants worked hard and did very well. Lewis Central had a total of 10 students who qualified to participate in the competition. To qualify, a series of tests were given to the Advanced Math sections of the 6th grade class, and the 10 who scored the best were given the opportunity to participate. These students include: Franklin Piedade, Amy Epperson, Frasier Dew, Brook DeMarque, Christian Fricke, Brendan Johnson, Colton Cubrich, Josh Rolles, Weston Morgan, and Lincoln Rodenberg. Participating in this event were 32 other teams that included over 160 students from around the area.
We are proud to announce that one of the teams representing L.C.M.S. went on to capture 1st place in this competition! This team consists of Brendan Johnson, who also tied for second place in the individual contest. Next was Weston Morgan, who placed seventh in individual rounds. Josh Rolles, finishing 14th in individual. Coming in 23rd in individual was Colton Cubrich. The final member on the championship team was Lincoln Rodenburg. The teams were accompanied by 6th grade teachers Rob Lear and Megan Richardson.
We are off to the state competition on May 9 in Fort Dodge where we will be competing against teams from all around the state that have won their district contest. Everyone is so proud of this accomplishment. Special thanks to Mrs. Frank for her work with these math students. Good Luck at state!
