A Proud Past…A Promising Future!

On behalf of the Lewis Central School Board, “Welcome to LC!”

Do you know your school board?
Your LC Board consists of 7 elected board members serving three-year terms. Four members are district representatives even though the entire district votes them into office (Map of district). Three members are at-large.

Your school board meetings are held the 1^st and 3^rd Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. The Friday before the meeting, the agenda will be posted in schools and on the web site. Check it out and see what school business we are discussing. Our meetings are held at the Lewis Central ERC (Educational Resource Center) located at 1600 E. S. Omaha Bridge Road, Council Bluffs. The public is ALWAYS welcome to attend the meetings. As per board policy 204.9, there are two times during the meetings the public can address the school board. (Policy 204.9) Each person has a time limit of 5 minutes. If there is a group of people who would like to speak on the same topic, the time limit might be lowered or a couple spokesmen will be selected. We hold a business meeting in the public so we do have to follow rules and regulations to keep the meeting moving along.

If you would like to contact any of the board members, letters addressed to them can be mailed to the ERC – 1600 E. S. Omaha Bridge Road, Council Bluffs, IA, 51503. A board members job includes academic and financial decisions for the district and to enforce board policy (Policy 201.3 and Policy 202.6. At Lewis Central, we do have a “chain of command” you must go through on issues before it comes to the board (Policy 203.14). Some issues are not decisions of the board. Persons you need to talk to: 1^st the teacher, 2^nd the principal, 3^rd the superintendent and lastly the board. We also have an athletic director, director of operations (bus and buildings), food service director, special populations coordinator, and curriculum specialist you may be directed to speak with before you contact the superintendent of Lewis Central Schools, Dr. Mark Schweer. Any board member can direct you to who you need to speak with about your questions and concerns.

I hope this helps to familiarize you with your LC Board. We are very proud of our schools: academics, extra-curricular activities, staff and facilities. We have a proud past and we continually try to grow and improve for our children’s future. Check out LC’s web site.
