Andy Walters began as Director of Bands at Lewis
Central High School in 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in
Music Education Degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney,
and a Master of Music Education Degree from the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to teaching at Lewis Central, Mr. Walters
was Director of Bands at Papillion-La Vista High School, in
Papillion, NE from 2003 to 2006 and Ralston High School and Ralston
Middle School from 2001 to 2003.
Mr. Walters is currently the President-elect for the Southwest Iowa Bandmasters Association. He as also served as the Class AA Representative for the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association, the Executive Board for the Nebraska Wind Symphony and is an Executive Board Member for the Papillion Area Concert Band. Mr. Walters has presented sessions at the Nebraska Music Educators Association Fall Conference and the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association Summer Convention.
Mr. Walters was awarded the Jack R. Snider Outstanding Young Band Director Award in 2005 and the Nebraska Music Educator Association’s Outstanding Young Music Educator Award in 2004. Bands under his direction have consistently received Superior ratings at district, state, and regional competitions.
Mr. Walters professional affiliations include: The National Association for Music Education, International Association for Jazz Education, National Band Association, Iowa Band Association, and the Lewis Central Education Association. He performs regularly as a member of the Nebraska Wind Symphony, the Papillion Area Concert Band, the Southwest Iowa Men's Chorus, the Bluffs Big Band and in several brass ensembles affiliated with these groups. He has also performed with the Iowa Western Community Band, and for the Omaha Community Playhouse as a member of the pit orchestra.
Mr. Walters' wife Melanie is a choreographer for area show choirs, marching bands, and musicals at the high school and collegiate level. She also works for the Omaha Community Playhouse in the Education Department. Together, the Walters' go motorcycling, jeeping, and volunteer at the Nebraska Humane Society as Dog Walkers. They have two dogs, Ava and Tucker.
