Pamela Ryan is Co-Middle School Director of Bands at Lewis Central Middle School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated from Morningside College with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and was awarded a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University.
Ms. Ryan is
currently the SWIBA representative for Junior High Affairs to Iowa
Bandmasters. In 2005-06, she was honored to serve as SWIBA
(Southwest Iowa Bandmaster's Association) President and director of
the 7th grade SWIBA honor band. In 2006, she
directed the 6/7th grade
honor band sponsored by the Lenox, Iowa Instrumental music
department.
Ms. Ryan began her teaching career in LuVerne, Iowa as director of instrumental music grades 5-12, building the program from 17 high school students to a band of over 60 students. In 1979, Ms. Ryan accepted her current position as Director of Middle School bands in the Lewis Central Community School system in Council Bluffs, Iowa. LCMS bands typically send record numbers of students to the SWIBA district honor band and 8th grade All-Iowa Honor Band sponsored by IBA.
She has played professionally with several performance groups including The Karl King Community Band, The Fort Dodge Symphony Orchestra, the Sioux City Symphony, The Iowa Western Community Band, The Earl Russell Dance Band, The Benny Ray Band, and The Lee Martin Orchestra. She has also been an adjudicator for high school and middle school honor band auditions as well as junior high concert band competitions.
While teaching at Lewis Central, Ms.Ryan served several years as Fine Arts Chairperson on the Lewis Central District Budget committee representing music and art, past editor of the Middle school newsletter, and as past chairperson of the Lewis Central Middle School cadre. In 1999, she initiated a team approach to teaching instrumental music at the middle school and in 1999 and 2006 co-authored instrumental music curriculum to embrace the National Music Standards.
