Lewis Central is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. Lewis Central High School began classes in 1962 upon completion of a new high school building. The district was named in recognition of Lewis Township. Gene Sanders was the first principal and Ben Kammer was the first superintendent. There were 29 faculty members in 1962.
There will be a number of activities planned in recognition of this milestone over the course of the school year. The LC Foundation is planning a number of things for Homecoming on September 16. Also, on September 16 the LC Booster Club is teaming up with McMullen Ford in a unique fundraising effort. Take a free test drive in a brand new Ford vehicle and Ford will give $20.00 per test drive to the Booster Club. No strings attached, just test drive a car and we get $20.00, up to $6,000.00.
The school board election is set for Tuesday, September 13th. Ron Stazzoni and Amie Studer are seeking another term (4 years). They are both running unopposed. Dan Feller has opted not to seek re-election. We thank him for his 6 years of service on the board. Tracy Bruun is running unopposed for his Director District #3 position.
Kreft held its first emergency flood evacuation drill last Thursday. The students were loaded on the bus ready for departure in 9 minutes. We will continue to stage the buses on-site until we receive word from city and emergency management officials that the situation no longer warrants such action.
September 7th will be the first early out for students so that teachers can continue with their professional learning. The early outs are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month. Students will be dismissed 2 hours early on these days.
