The winter break begins on Thursday, December 22. School resumes on Tuesday, January 3.
On November 22 the Lewis Central Education Association recognized their “Friends of Education Award” recipients. A recipient was chosen for each building. This year’s recipients are as follows:
- Marg Kilibarda – Kreft
- Bob Mundt & Silverstone (John & Anne Nelson) – Titan Hill
- First Christian Church – Middle School
- Cal Parrott – High School
The district has recently received some noteworthy recognition for improving math achievement at Titan Hill and for our Project Lead the Way Program at the High School. More information can be found on the district website.
Renovation has begun on Central Elementary. The gym will be renovated, restrooms added, and the remaining portion of the building will be converted to a large classroom/meeting space area. Project is scheduled to be completed prior to next fall.
A public hearing will be held on December 5 at 6:30 pm in the board room for the new ERC project.
School Closing Information
I have put this off as long as I probably dare. In the event that we cancel school due to inclement weather, the announcement will be shared with the following TV and radio stations:
KMTV Channel 3 The River (89.7 FM)
WOWT Channel 6 KFAB (1110 AM)
KETV Channel 7
Fox Channel 42
The information will also appear on the Lewis Central District website (www.lewiscentral.org). In fact, the information may very well appear on the website before it would appear on either TV or radio. The decision to cancel school will be made no later than 5:30 am. When possible we will make the decision the evening prior because we know that makes it easier for families to make necessary arrangements. However, that is not always possible. If we are able to do so, that timeframe would be the 10 pm news hour.
There are two snow days built into the calendar (February 13 and April 5). If we have had to cancel school due to inclement weather prior to February 13 then we will have school that day. If not, then there will be no school that day for either students or staff (same scenario for April 5). If we use both of our snow days, then any additional required days would be made up at the end of the school year.
