The Lewis Central School Board is pleased to announce that Dr. Eric Knost has accepted the offer to serve as the next Superintendent.  Based on the feedback from multiple interview teams it became clear that Eric was the right fit to lead the district.


Dr. Eric Knost-Eric currently serves as the Superintendent of Rockwood School District in St. Louis, MO. This is the third largest school district in the state of Missouri where he is responsible for the education of 21,000 students.  His district was recognized state-wide as a District of Character and multiple schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools within the district under his leadership. Eric has led multiple successful bond issues and facilities projects in the district.  His prior experience includes Superintendent experience with Mehlville School District where he previously served as the Deputy Superintendent. He began his teaching career as a band director for the Windsor School District, MO.


Dr. Knost has been honored with multiple awards for his efforts around leadership and school improvement. Some of them include an Above and Beyond Award and Community Leadership Award from the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, Regional Award of Distinction from Education Plus, and Teacher of the Year Award from the Rockwood School District.


Eric’s education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Webster University (1983). His Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership is from Lindenwood University in 1997. He completed his Doctorate Degree in Education Administration from St. Louis University in 2002.


Eric was thrilled to accept the position say, “I am really excited to join the Lewis Central Community school district as their next superintendent. Lewis Central has an established tradition of excellence, and I look forward to providing unified leadership focused on helping all students thrive.”

 

His family includes his wife, Julie and their two daughters, Kaylin and Amy. Julie has served in many roles as a public educator, including being a high school biology teacher. Kaylin and Amy are both music education majors in college. 


Dr. Knost and current district superintendent Dr. Mark Schweer will be transitioning the rest of the school year to ensure a smooth transition for all involved.  He will officially begin his duties on July 1, 2019. The school board wants to thank everyone who participated in the hiring process for their valuable feedback on this important hire that was critical for success in the final selection.  The board looks forward to working with Dr. Knost and what he offers the district and larger community. Board President Dorene Scheffel said, “We are extremely delighted that Dr. Knost has emerged as the top candidate in a competitive search process that drew qualified applicants from Iowa and other states. We have great things happening at Lewis Central and want to continue our mission - Inspiring Excellence.  After the extensive interview process, finalized with feedback from the formal interviews from our LC Stakeholders, we are confident that Dr. Knost has the experience and knowledge to guide Lewis Central into the future.”
