LC PTA General Meeting Minutes

Titan Hill Library - February 14, 2012

Welcome & Intro – Angie Stoufer

Secretary Report – Jen McDaniel – motion to approve minutes, Christy Stolp seconded.

Treasurer’s Report – Jen McDaniel

Committee Reports:

Box Tops Update – No report, however, Mrs. Grell talked to Amanda Plantz and she needs help counting box tops.  Will put on the website for anyone interested.

Art Fundraiser – Order should go home around 2/17.  Order due back to school by 3/1.  Still need art work from Kreft. 

Book Fair - Karen Hamilton - Kreft - 3/5 – 3/7.  Titan Hill – 4/16 – 4/19.  Karen brought up that we have approx. $17,000 sitting out there.  Both principals indicated credits are hard to use.  Karen will find out what technology options Scholastic has available.

Supply Drive – Sarah Ziegler – both schools in need of hand sanitizer, wipes, watercolor paints, sweatpants for Kreft Health office.  Boxes located in offices at both schools.

Jim Fay Parenting Workshop – Denise Beyenhoff – workshop will be held following next PTA meeting sponsored by the PTA.   Will be showing videos with different topics and also discussions.

New Business:

Open Positions -  still open positions are President Elect, Treasurer Elect and Climb Theater.

Principles Report –

            Mrs. Grell – Family Activity Night is 3/8.  Kreft is also doing a  Leukemia/Lymphoma fundraiser with the star being Kara Dunphy.  School goal is $2,000.00 with sundaes and hat day if met.

            Mrs. Grell also thanked the PTA for the laminator.  Technology Committee is researching what technology kids will be using upon graduation.  Crisis Team has been looking at intruders in and near the school.  Each classroom has backpacks with instructions for scenarios.  Will be practicing what to do during different times of day.  Moved datawall re: 1st grade reading.  Working to have all students at or above the benchmark by end of year.  Thank you to parents who attended spring parties today.

            Mr. Stopak – Student council completed food drive for Salvation Army.  There was an article in paper about the TH Breaking Boundary Award.  Many different schools have come to TH to learn about the math models being used.  Attendance has been up this year – good news.  The 2nd early out each month, community leaders come in to talk about the 7 Habits.  Sheriff Danker is coming this month.  Good for the kids to hear how the 7 Habits are used by different people.  Mrs. Goeser discussed the Parent Orientation Night for 3rd – 5th grades and making it like a Family Activity Night on 5/15.  There will be different stations regarding math and summer activities for kids. 

Next meeting will be March 13th with Jim Fay Parenting Workshop at Titan Hill Cafeteria.

Titan Hill Cafeteria - November 8, 2011

Welcome & Intro – Angie Stoufer

Secretary Report – Leann Muschenheim – motion to approve minutes, Sarah Ziegler seconded.

Treasurer’s Report – Jen McDaniel

Box Tops – Amanda Plantz – Amanda was in the paper for her work with the box tops.  December check should be about $6,500.  Remember, the Box tops Marketplace for bonus box tops.  They have all the popular stores like Target and Best Buy.

Membership – Jen McDaniel – turn in membership if still haven’t.  Cards should be coming soon.

TH Fall Fundraiser -  Angie – pick-up is 11/10 starting at 3 p.m.  Set up starting at 1:30.   Profit this year is between $25,00 and $28,000. 

Social Event -  Rio was the winning movie.  Will start at 7:00 on Friday, 11/18 in the gym.  Free popcorn and water.

Directory – Were sent home.  There was about a $700 profit from the advertising. 

Kreft Fall Fundraiser -  Poinsettia and X-mas cactus pickup is 12/15.   The X-mas shop for the kids will be 12/19 through 12/21 from 9-3 p.m. 

Papa Johns – next fundraiser will be Thursday, 11/17.

New Business:

PTA website -  up and running under the for parents tab.  Will have the minutes, any important information and would like to add the box tops info also.

DQ & Village Inn-  2nd Tuesday – DQ at Manawa, 5-8 p.m. PTA made about $100 last month.  Leann mentioned that she talked to Village Inn and we would try it one more month.  No profit last month.

Principles Report – Mr. Stopak – Trick or Treating at TH went well.  About 120 kids came through and learned more about the 7 habits.  On 11/16 is the Department of Education Awards in Des Moines.  Titan Hill received the Breaking Barriers award for increased math scores for low income and no other drops in scores.  Report cards should be coming out next week.

No December meeting.  Next meeting will be January 10th, 2010, which will be the spring planning party already.

Secretary Report – Jen Bumsted – motion to approve minutes, Leann Muschenheim seconded.


Treasurer’s Report – Jen McDaniel


  • Box Tops - Angie – 2003 to 2009 – made $10,000 approx. Last year made $10,000. LC – 1st in IA. Top 10 nationally.
  • Membership - sheets sent home with ½ sheet for committee lists for volunteers.
  • TH Fall Fundraiser - Denise Beyenhof – delivery for fundraiser is 11/10 starting at 2 p.m. Need volunteers.
  • Social Event - set for 11/18 in gym. Flyer will be going home. Vote on Facebook for movie to show. Popcorn and water being donated again.
  • Directory - picked up from printer and should be going home soon. There are some available for purchase at $3.00. 
  • Kreft Fall Fundraiser - Poinsetta and X-mas cactus sale starting 11/28. Pickup is 12/19 – will need volunteers. 12/19 and 12/20 – X-mas shop – during school hours and then Wed. until 8 p.m.

New Business:
  • DQ & Village Inn- 2nd Tuesday – DQ at Manawa, 5-8 p.m. PTA makes 10%. 3rd Tuesday – Village Inn, 5-8 p.m. PTA makes 10%.
  • Principles Report – Mr. Stopak – Walk to Cure Diabetes raised over $6,000 and TH was recognized at banquet in recognition of top school and Spirit of JDRF award. Gov. Branstad wants IA to be healthiest state. Last week, the start somewhere walk was coupled with the Leader in Me and 7 habits. Life skills are still be done within the 7 habits. NP Dodge was shown around the school by students last week showing leadership skills


  • Fall Party Planning – Kreft’s party is 10/28 – times are at teacher discretion. TH – 4/5 grades – 10/27 and 2/3 grades- 10/28 from 2 – 3 p.m.
