Try This........
*******Try teaching vocabulary after several exposures to the concepts being taught.  Begin with the big idea and end with the small parts.  This seems counter-intuitive, but it helps ELLs if they have several exposures to the content material before they make meaning with the vocabulary.
If you have 9 minutes to spare this week, please take a peek at this video.  It is of a middle school social studies teacher working in urban Denver and a strategy that she uses to teach vocabulary to her class that contains several English Language Learners.  It is a strategy that could be used in any classroom.
Did you know............
Did you know that all students fill out a home language survey at registration?  When parents fill out this form, if they indicate that another language is spoken in the home besides English, it prompts your ELL teacher to begin testing the student for  ELL services.
