Policy 402.9 - Licensed Employee Probationary Status

LICENSED EMPLOYEE PROBATIONARY STATUS

The probationary period a teacher must serve is three years, unless the teacher has successfully completed a probationary period in another Iowa school district, in which case the probationary period isn’t more than one year.

Only the Board of Directors, in its discretion, may waive the probationary period or may extend the probationary period with the consent of the certified employee. The Board will make the decision to extend or waive a licensed employee's probationary status based upon the superintendent's recommendation. During this probationary period the Board may terminate the licensed employee's contract at year-end or discharge the employee as provided by law.
