MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2019

Call to Order: Board President Dorene Scheffel called the regular meeting to order at 6:30 pm. At roll call, the following board members responded as present: Mrs. McDaniel, Mr. Portrey, Mr. Weilage, Mr. Stoufer, Ms. Adkins, and Mrs. Scheffel. Mr. Hendrix was absent.

Administrators: Dr. Mark Schweer, Dave Black, and Jeff Carper

Guest in attendance: Tracy Watsabaugh, Anna Boehm, Tim Boehm, Matthew Boehm, Nicole Siebels, Mark Siebels and Andrea Raes. Media: Tim Johnson.

Approve Agenda:
Mr. Stoufer moved, seconded by Mrs. Scheffel, that the agenda be approved as presented. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0

Commendations/Good News:
• Superintendent’s MVP – Anna Boehm. Anna started working at Lewis Central in 1990 and has occupied several different positions and acted in several different capacities since including Activities Secretary, Curriculum Secretary, Middle School Principal Secretary and Superintendent Secretary since 1994. Dr. Mark Schweer said that her service to the district and the Superintendent has been invaluable.
• LCHS recognized with EF High School Exchange Year Global Excellence Award. This award is presented annually to high schools that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to international understanding and global awareness.
• Letter to the editor from Lewis Central parent thanking the dedicated teachers, faculty and staff
• The Boys soccer team will appear in the class 2A title game against Xavier High School from Cedar Rapids in Des Moines on Tuesday, June 4th at 2:30 pm.
• The Girls soccer team defeated Winterset 1-0 on Monday June 3rd and will advance to the state soccer tournament and play against Waverly-Shell Rock in Des Moines on Thursday June 6th at 2 pm.

Comments & Suggestions:
• Mrs. Andrea Raes introduced as new Business Manager/Board Secretary replacing Dale Kreher. She is coming from Underwood School District where she has spent the last 8 years. She will start working half-time on June 11th and full time by July 1st.

Consent Agenda:
Mr. Stoufer moved, seconded by Mrs. Scheffel, that the consent agenda be approved as presented. Discussion: The consent agenda included approval of minutes – May 20th, 2019 meeting. Administrative Recommendations – Personnel, Licensed – Approval to Employ: Licensed – Ryan McKim – HS Assistant Football Coach, Christopher Moore – MS Social Studies Teacher, Emily O’Brien – MS Special Education Teacher, Collin Fast – TH Elementary Teacher, Courtney True – HS Math Teacher. Licensed – Resignation – Trudy Nielsen Kimble – MS Language Arts, Danielle Guntly – MS Social Studies Teacher. Classified Resignations/Terminations – Haleigh Philmalee – TH Special Education Paraeducator. Classified Transfers/Promotions – Amanda Stephens – KR/PK Paraeducator to HS Health Associate. Carried: 6-0

Reports
• Nutrition Services Annual Report: Tracy Watsabaugh, Nutrition Service Director provided the board with an annual Nutrition Service report for the 2018/2019 school year. She discussed meal counts, financial issues, changes that were implemented during the year, plans for the 2019/2020 school year as well as meal prices for next year, procurement regulations and bids for next year. She reviewed the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act and changes for the upcoming year. Lewis Central Nutrition Services strives to promote a healthy environment that supports student learning and the development of lifelong healthy lifestyles.

7.01 Approve Nutrition Services Bid Contracts
Tracy Watsabaugh is recommending to renew the Nutrition Services bid contracts with the following suppliers for the 2019-2020 school year:

Reinhart Foods
Dean Foods
Omaha Paper Company
Payless Office Supplies, Inc.

7.02 Approve Bread Bid for 2019-2020
Tracy Watsabaugh is recommending to the board to accept the bid from Rotella’s Italian Bakery for the contract year of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, with the option to renew for up to two additional years.

7.03 Approve Pizza Hut Bid for 2019-2020
Tracy Watsabaugh is recommending to the board to accept the bid from Pizza Hut for fresh baked pizza to be delivered to the Lewis Central Community Schools for the contract year of July 1 2019 to June 30 2020 with the option to renew for an additional two years.

7.04 Set Breakfast and Lunch Prices for 2019-2020
Tracy Watsabaugh, Director of Nutrition Services is recommending that prices for breakfast & lunch increase by 5 cents across the board for 2019 – 2020.
Elementary Breakfast $1.85
Elementary Lunch $2.75
Middle School Breakfast $1.95
Middle School Lunch $3.05
High School Breakfast $2.05
High School Lunch $3.25-3.50
Adult Breakfast $2.75
Adult Lunch $3.80

7.05 Approval of Bids for Summer Improvement Projects
Jeff Carper is recommending to the board to approve the bids for the following summer improvement projects:

Sports Complex Cameras – The home side press box is scheduled to be replaced it has been decided to remove camera installation on the home side as well. The proposal from Prime Communications is for the visitor’s side. Three cameras will cover north side of the bleachers, the softball field and the area south of the restroom/concessions building. The bid included cameras, installation and commission upon the completion of the system at a cost of $4,595.16.

High School Bleacher Repair – The east-side bleachers in the large gym need to be repaired. It is recommended to accept the bid from Seating and Athletic Facility Enterprises provide 24 new self-storing aisle rails, all new decking and splices/end caps, new vinyl nosing with hardware and 8 pair of 12’ seat and end caps. Cost for material and installation is $52,692.

Dave Black is recommending to the board to approve the resubmitted bid from KCAV for the EPIC System with 4 common area paging zones at Kreft Primary and Titan Hill schools. This system will enhance communication and safety as it allows the ability for the office to communicate with every part of the building. The resubmitted bid includes 44 additional speakers. The cost of resubmitted bids for Kreft Primary is $50, 238.25 and $52,476.75.

7.06 Set Administrator Salaries for 2019-2020
Dr. Schweer recommended a 2.5% package increase for all administrators for the 2019-2020 school year.

Mr. Portrey moved, seconded by Mrs. McDaniel, that the Lewis Central Board of Directors approve the renewal of bid contracts for the above recommended. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0

9.02 Approve Bread Bid for 2019-2020
Mrs. McDaniel moved, seconded by Ms. Adkins, that the Lewis Central Board of Directors approve the renewal of the bid from Rotella’s Italian Bakery to supply the district bread for the 2019-2020 school year. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0

9.03 Approve Pizza Hut Bid for 2019-2020
Mr. Stoufer moved, seconded by Ms. Adkins, that the Lewis Central Board of Directors approve the renewal of the bid from Pizza Hut to provide fresh baked pizzas to the district for the 2019-2020 school year. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0

9.04 Set Breakfast and Lunch Prices for 2019-2020
Mrs. McDaniel moved, seconded by Mr. Weilage, that the Lewis Central Board of Directors approve and set the breakfast and lunch prices for the 2019-2020 school year. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0

9.05 Approval of Bids for Summer Improvement Projects
Mr. Stoufer moved, seconded by Mr. Portrey, that the Lewis Central Board of Directors approve the bids for summer improvement projects. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0

9.06 Set Administrator Salaries for 2019-2020
Mr. Stoufer moved, seconded by Mr. Portrey, that the Lewis Central Board of Directors approve and set the administrator salaries for school year 2019-2020. Discussion: None. Carried: 6-0.
